Hi,
I am currently in a Masters of Arts in Teaching program in Georgia. I have worked in the corporate world for 18 years. I graduated from college in 1988, and now I am back in school for the first time. When I finish the program in the spring, I will be certified to teach middle grades in Georgia with a masters degree (that is if I pass the state exams). I have completed two field experiences where I have observed in a 4th grade class room for 48 hours and have observed in a 6th grade math class for 48 hours (both over a two-month period). I plan to do student teaching in the spring. I have found this teacher forum as an assignment from my "Computer Literacy in Education" class. I am supposed to post something and then report back if I receive a response.
So, here is my question.... How have you integrated technology into your classroom?
Thank you for your response.

Hi,
How have you integrated technology into your classroom?
I am a high school chef instructor.
I use a computer with internet access to:
* update the on-line grade book
* mark attendance
* submit wholesale food orders to our suppliers
* e-mail breakfast and lunch menus to district staff
* e-mail messages to the building administrator
* research on-line recipes
* communicate with my counterparts in other districts
* create and file lesson plans
Other technology used:
* calculators to scale up or reduce recipe ingredients
* digital scales to precisely measure the weight of ingredients (especially for baking)
* POS (point of sale) electronic cash registers (which tracks the sale of each food item)
* digital thermometers to check on internal temperatures for meat products
* NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) approved vent exhaust hoods with built in fire suppression systems - this hood hangs over our stove. Internal sensors will detect fire and automatically dump a foam spray on the fire.
* Hard wired fire alarm system: If smoke is detected anywhere in our building, the fire alarm will go off throughout the entire building
* security camera surveillance: All public areas are under constant supervision via security cameras. All security cameras are linked to recorders.

My students use technology to present projects via photos or short movies that they create.
I also have my students use the internet to research topics as well as complete webquests.
My students use technology a lot for formating projects and typing.
I love to play short video clips via the internet and scan in photos from a book for the students to see as I read aloud.

We use Power Point presentations to introduce writing prompts such as personal narrative. We also use a program called Accelerated Reader. It is designed to test the students' comprehension after reading particular books.

I'm nt yet a teacher but I can tell you about my yeachers sometimes they use the tape recorder in oral expression and phonetics with the handouts so we look for example at the word and listening in the same time.We can use the computer and video too to listen to songs and watching daily speeches.

I am currently teaching high school science in a room that is not set up for science. My room is carpeted, has desks instead of tables, no lab space, and only one sink. On top of that, the room is very full with 35 kids in some of my classes. Unfortunately, this means that I am not able to do as many labs as I'd like to.
One solution I've found is to take the kids to the library to use the computers. Today, in fact, I have my Earth Science 2 kids in the library researching natural disasters. We started a unit on weather, so I am asking them to research weather-related natural disasters. I also use a lot of videos to show what volacanic eruptions, tsunamis, planets, etc look like. I have also had my students complete webquests and even virtual labs on the computer.
