A good website I use to find ideas for themes is the Preschool Rainbow. I don't know if I'm too new of a poster to include the address in here, but I'll try. The spaces are just so it will maybe go through. It is w w w. preschoolrainbow . o r g.

I want to see if this works. I have more ideas to follow in a minute.

To teach the children about germs, it always helps to have a visual aid. This is an activity to do with small groups or a Circle. Take a little bit of shaving cream and hold it in your hand. Then pretend to sneeze. Tell the children that the shaving cream is the germs from your sneeze. Then go and touch the doorknob, a toy, and a friend. You will leave some of the cream behind. Explain that this is what happens when we don't wash our hands after sneezing.

Make up lots of songs to help children remember what to do. For example, sing a hand-washing song before lunch, after bathroom time, ect. The children will begin to sing these songs themselves and remember.

Get supplies such as Kleenex, soap, and towels that are gentle on the children's skin. Some children might not like the scent of the soap provided by the school or find it boring. Scent-free soap in fun shaped containers might motivate the children.

There is a good book for teachers called Healthy Young Children. If I remember correctly it includes activities to do with the children along with information. There are a lot of forms in it also, which might help you.

Airport is a fun theme. If possible, try to take a field trip to an airport nearby. Obviously, go at a time when the airport isn't too busy. This may be difficult with such strict airport security, but it is worth a try. You can also set up your room like an airport. Have the children "check thier luggage" at the cubbies in the mornings. Have art activities where the children can use flag stickers, little notebooks, postcards, ect. These may result in passport or tickets. If not, that is okay too. Put props in the dramatic play area such as suitcases, trolleys, pilot uniform, ect. These can be handmade, bought, or adapted from other things. Create a check-in desk, a plane area, and a waiting place. Have a snack that might be what the children would eat on the plane. Go outside and do a movement activity where the children pretend to be planes. Try to incorpetrate the theme into all the areas of the program.

Good luck!

For the Hygiene theme, create a large bathtub in your room. Get a big cardboard box, such as from a refrigerator, and fill it with all kinds of bath stuff. You know, fun sponges, a back scrubber, a few soft washrags, ect. Blow up some clear or white balloons to symbolize soap bubbles.

Let the children use soap crayons to draw on thier hands and arms. Then wash off the designs when done.

Blow soap bubbles outside.

Set up a beauty shop in the dramatic play area.

Turn the whole classroom into a spa for the theme.

Get the bath crystels that fizz and have fun dropping them into a bucket of water. There are also compressed washrags and sponges that expand from tiny little shapes into really big ones. These are a lot of fun.

Put bubble bath or liquid dish soap into the water table to make bubbles to play in.

Let the children smell different shampoos. Make a chart of who likes which one best.

Fingerpaint with shaving cream or make puff paint out of it.

A really good source for theme ideas and activities, etc. is www.childfun.com I have been using this for my kids at home (I homeschool) since my oldest was 18months. She is now 7 years and I still use it with all 5 of the kids. You may be able to get quite a few ideas from here. If you need more, let me know..I have a ton of websites that I use for school themes and ideas.
Good Luck!

A good germ project is to mix a little vegetable oil and glitter. Put a few drops of veggie oil on a child's hand and then put some glitter on the table. Use toys that you can wahs easily--and have the child lay their hand on the glitter-- it willstick to the oil--then have them touch the toys-- some of the glitter will come off on the toy--this shows how germs can spread---it also leads to a good demonstration of how to wash hands well in order to get it all off--

For a gross motor game- I make a "Yucky" germ. I took a cleaning sponge -hot glued eyes and made the sponge look yucky. Then place the "Germ" on a parachute and have children keeping the germ on the parachute and not on "us." Also, I teach the children a song "Turn off the water with a paper towel, turn off the water with a paper towel, turn off the water with a paper towel wash those germs away."

I love that game idea! It is something that the children would just adore. I need to do more parachute, and that is really a cute suggestion.
