I am a homeschooling parent and have been teaching my children since they were 1 (I now have a preschooler, kindergartener, 1st grader, and 2nd grader) . I do not use any set curriculum and basically, with the internet and library, make my own. I am looking for websites or ideas that you may have or have used that are Christian based. I am especially interested in Science lessons that are based on the Bible and Christian beliefs. Science is my biggest pet peeve because most of what you learn goes against the Bible.
Any help you may have on this would be awesome.
Thank you in advance,:p

I am trying to post websites but the browser in this forum will not let them go through. I have worked in a Christian childcare where I had to write curriculum. Science was a challenge but I did see my way through it by reflecting all concepts back to the connection that everything had & Jesus created all to form a balance. I will email you the links through your Yahoo.
Good Luck!

My daughter and two nieces go to a christian school (grades 3, 5, and 7). My mother-in-law teaches there. They use Abeka (www.abeka.org). It offers science lessons that are in-line with the bible. I'll admit that it seems a little flimsy at times, but it most certainly never contradicts any christian beliefs, to the point that it doesn't even propose theories contrary, even for the sake of argument (if you haven't guessed, I'd at least like them to be there, to be consistant with what other students are learning). They specialize in home-schooling, so you should be able to find a lot on ebay.

Are you looking for a curriculum that teaches the world is about 12,000 years old and humans and dinosaurs lived on the planet at the same time?

Sorry it took so long for me to get back, but yes, that's what I'm looking for. There are passages in the Bible describing dinosaurs, so I would like to teach my children that there is no way that humans were "evolved" after they were already extinct. Science irritates me because it always goes against everything that I was ever taught in Bible. My kids know that there are other theories and that some people believe other things, but they also know what we believe and I would like to teach them science that doesn't contradict that. It just makes it all too confusing for kids.

Of course, it's up to you, but imo, you should just teach other branches of science and for the time being just teach them 'History According to the Bible'. Any 'science' that has been fabricated or bent to fit a preconceived belief system isn't science at all. When they get to be about 14 explain to them that your belief system regarding certain issues is faith based and that no scientific theory, no matter how deeply supported by evidence, will cause your faith to waiver. That's coming from someone who finds your beliefs silly but deeply respects your right to raise your children as you see fit and to educate them in the manner which you think is best. Good luck.

OakTree-
I totally agree with you. When teaching a faith based curriculum, you must stick to the written belief system & not complicate/contradict the teaching with "scientific theories". When children are a bit older, it would be easier for them to comprehend both factors, in the faith as well as in the scientific theories. You go OakTree!!!!:)

We have started teaching our children at home this year. I did lots of research for a Christian Curriculum. We ended up with "Christian Liberty Press." We :love it. It isn't as costly as ABEKA, or BOB JONES.

to have a rounded education you are going to need to teach your children about science. however, there are christian ways of explaining things that science cant. you can start with the big bang theory. this is how science tells us the universe began. however, science is at a loss to explain exactly what existed before the big bang. this is where christians believe God started it all, including the big bang.
i am catholic and teach at a catholic school. we integrate everything - we need to teach certain things as a government requirement, and we also look at the christian beliefs and values. we teach students to question their learning and not take everything for face value.
having said that, have you ever actually studied the history of the bible? (not just the content). the bible was written over hundreds of years, and handed down through stories etc. things were written way after the events, and certain stories in the gospels are identical word for word. It is today's modern church that belives that things in the bible are not taken literally. But rather, Christians are to read the Christian values underlying the stories. I find teaching the Bible in this way much more understandable. When I grew up I was just told far-fetched stories of the bible. I ended up hating going to church and being told what to believe. Now, later in life - this new understanding I can appreciate from more of a historical point of view. Try not to make your kids resent your beliefs - although I respect your decisions.
there are many syllabi online that explain full units of religious education, that gives you everything you need to cover! good luck with it

I think this is a very interesting way to think about teaching science. It is certainly a challenge!
I think that the prior suggestions are quite good. To think about how God created these scientific explainations is helpful.
