I have been teaching 4/5 year olds in a Head Start program in NYC for the past 10 years. Although I do not have a position yet with the public schools, I am certain I will come September. Therefore, I am looking for advice for a teacher moving from pre-K to early elementary grades. Any and every piece of advice accepted.
Thanks.:)

I happened to move from pre-school to teaching Kindergarten. While it may seem as a HUGE transition, it may not be. I guess it all depends on what type of curriculum you will be using at your new school. When I switched, the curriculum wasn't that much different...just a bit more advanced.
I guess the big difference is knowing that your students are not "babies" and that you must challenge them more. They are capable of the higher level of thinking.
I am doing the same thing, last year I taught Pre-K at a daycare center and this coming year I will be teaching first grade, special education...I would like some advice too!!

I'm moving from a Pre-K program to teaching 4th grade Special Ed. It's a huge move and one that is scaring me!!!! However, once I know what to do, I'm good with what I do in the classroom.. right now I'm just nervous about the fact I'm dealing with inclusion really for the first time. I have done self contained classrooms but not inclusion before.
