Our school will be implementing the Positive Behavior System this next year. All I know so far is that it involves school-wide rules for safety, responsibility, respect and preparedness and all staff members recognize this behavior in any student by giving out tokens or "bucks" that the students get to spend in a school store. If you are using this in your school I would appreciate any advise or tips about management and keeping up with tickets. I teach 4th grade and we are departmentalized. I have 3 sections. Thanks

Good luck,
This sounds like one more thing that you (teacher) have to keep track of...... Not to mention the headache from the parents that their child didn't get the correct amount of "bucks" to go to the store......
Please keep me updated on how this program pans out!

We use the PBIS system at my school. It sounds difficult but in reality it isn't that hard to use. I teach 5th grade and I have the students be responsible for keeping track of them. They can be used in a variety of ways and can really keep some kids on track. There are those, however, that are not motivated by the bucks. The hardest part for me was getting over "rewarding" kids for doing what they're supposed to do.
Good Luck.

My advice is to take it slowly and be consistant.

At the beginning of the year, I printed out certificates that teachers could use to reward good citizenship at our high school. The certificates were turned in to the office and each day during morning announcements, one lucky winner was drawn.
A problem soon developed. Kids were going out of their way to be good citizens ... but only when a teacher was watching. Some of the more aggressive students actually went through the motions of doing a good deed only to then demand rewards from their teachers.
Our reward program is still in place but it's been heavily modified. Rewards are intermittent. You may get a reward. You may not. If you ask for a reward, you most certainly won't get one.

I use this aystem in my classroom and it works very well. The students are responsible for keeping track of their bucks. I make that very clear. I give them a baggie stapled into a folder to help them, but they are responsible for making sure they get in there especially if they earn it outside the classroom. I don't know how it would be on a larger scale. Good luck.
