My name is Deeva. I live in Canada, am 43 years old and have been teaching since 2001. I have three teenaged sons, one who graduated last year and moved out a few months ago. The other two are still at home and are in grade 12 and grade 10 respectively. I've been married for twenty years to the same man. We have one dog and two cats.
For the past two years I have been teaching a grade 2/3 combined class. The year before that I taught a grade 4/5 combined class. I have taught every grade level in elementary except for kindergarten and grade one.
I have been posting over at T-Net for a number of years, but it has gotten so out of control over there, as there are no moderators and members do not have to register. The amount of name calling and negativity is ridiculous and out of control. It's nice to see a moderated forum, such as this one. I feel at home here already.
:)

Hi Deeva!
Where (approximately) in Canada are you? I'm in Southwestern Ontario.

:) Hello and welcome to this board. I too found this board after getting tired of the negative posting on another teacher site.

I'm in Western Canada. We're on spring break now, which is great. I'm going out to BC tomorrow, flying, with my two younger sons. We're going to visit my parents. My husband is staying home, with the dog and cats. The oldest son is wishing he could come too, but having just moved out on his own awhile back, well the finances are tight at the moment.
Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone!

Hi, my name is Carrie. I registered a few days ago, I've not posted yet at all. I started teaching in February 2002. I've been taking a semester off from teacihng, I'm working as an instructional assistant at a charter school right now. I'm planning on returning to teaching in the fall. It's hard to not be teaching, I've missed more than I thought I would. Anyway, I'm hoping that this forum will give me the chance to pick up some new ideas for my classroom next year.

Teaching is great, isn't it? Although it can be overwhelming too, if you let it be. You have to learn to draw the line. I'm learning to do that now and have found a happy medium with my teaching life and my family life. You can't give up one for the other, or you will be unhappy.

YO DEEVA! Great to see you made it over here to the sane side. I found ya, sister.
I look forward to reading your posts! Check out the post I did about Taylor Mali, then go visit his website. You'll love his original "What Teachers Make" poem.
Stick around!!

Hey Girl! I love that part of Canada! Hubby and I honeymooned in Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper 17 years ago this April. It is SO beautiful -- breathtaking. Ever visit Glacier Bay?

Welcome! I'm new here as well but I don't have the amount of experience as yourself. Good to have you!

Oooh - Banff and Lake Louise are both stunning. (Though Banff is SO touristy!)

Carolyn, my husband and I both worked in Lake Louise 22 years ago. In fact that is where we married, up at the Chateau as we worked there. What a beautiful place. We still go there from time to time as some of our friends from the "old daze" still live up there.

I may head up to Lake Louise later this week while I am on Easter break. I am in Calgary, so it is less than 2 hours away. Gotta love being so close to the mountains but you gotta hate the insane house prices in Alberta now.
