My daughter's school garden club (mostly 4th & 5th graders) had a lot of fun making stepping stones for the landscaped areas surrounding the school. They brought in all kinds of items to "embed" in the cement (marbles, glass stones, little tiles, pieces of broken china, even little toys, etc.). They mixed & poured the cement into shallow palstic molds. Then they placed their objects into to cement. Some did random placement, some did beautiful designs. They worked in pairs. They liked the idea that their stones would last for a long time after they left the elementary school.

Does your school do field day? You could have the class decorate their own t-shirts to wear that day. You can tye-dye, or have each child put a hand print on every shirt and write their name by the hand, or just have fun with fabric paint.

Check out the craft ideas at Oriental Trading Company. They have some cute kits.

There are many web sites with ideas that require little money. Do a Google search and be prepared to spend hours trying to settle on what to do. Have fun!

Have you done SUNPRINTS?

It's this special photographic paper that you place object on & put the paper in the sun. The image (shadows) stay on the paper after being exposed to sunlight. The kids really enjoy this.

The paper I use with my class is made by a company called "Lawrence Hall of Science" at the University of California at Berkeley.
