I am seeking advice, support, assistance from anyone in the McPherson/Newton/Salina area. If you read my earlier post, my family and I are making a drastic move this June. My husband is going from a decade of family farming to being a student in nursing school. I have taught for four years now (this being the 4th). I have an undergraduate degree is marketing and a master's degree in elementary education. I am having a difficult time getting my teaching license in Kansas due to the "alternate route" I took to becoming an educator in Mississippi. Additionally, I am having a hard time finding a job teaching! In Mississippi, I am certified to teach English (7-12th grade), Marketing/Business (7-12th grade), Career Discovery (7-12th grade), and Elementary Education (K-8th grade). In Mississippi, I am highly desirable as an educator. However, I am finding that in Kansas, lots of people are highly desirable and from Kansas! One of the reasons we chose to move to Kansas was due to the high quality of public education. Unfortunately, it seems to be lowering my chances of finding a job! I know that I could probably find a job using my business degree, but my heart is in teaching. I have been in contact with several districts in the area before Christmas even, but most districts have few teachers that relocate or leave the profession. We will be there for a week in March to work on our house and so that I can look for a job. Any advice as to finding teaching employment would be greatly appreciated!!
