I am a student interested in becoming an elementary school teacher (pre-K through 2nd). I've read a little about the 2002 No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and understand that it requires testing students in grades 3 and above in reading and math. I'm wondering if the NCLB has also affected the earlier grades (pre-K through 2nd) and how?

I would also like to know what teachers think about these tests. Have they been useful for your students? Have they been helpful in evaluating your students' needs? Has the stress level at your school changed because of these tests?

Also, a lot of schools have had to reduce time spent on other subjects to prepare for these tests. Is this true for your school? If so, what subjects have been cut?

Thanks for your help!

You need to read the entire thread that we have ranted and raved about this law.
