I know a lot of you are on year-round calendars, but surely you've got some time off sometime this summer. What are your plans?
Because I'm midway through my M.Ed., I need to raise tuition money this summer, so I'll be teaching Algebra I for six weeks, which pays about four grand. Summer school is kind of a drag, but I've taught it for two of every three years; that extra money makes a huge difference.
I'll also be enrolled in a course that will meet two nights per week, for about ten weeks. I don't think that will be too intrusive on the other summer plans, which are:
To get my house cleaned and in order!
To get exercise every day.
To create enough sudoku puzzles (see the link in my signature line) to last me through the end of the calendar year.
To have my all of my 2006-2007 math team practice materials photocopied, filed, and in order so I don't have to deal with it during the year.
To make at least one trip to the island of Hawaii, which I try to do every so often to get recharged. I went to college there and miss it dearly.
So, what will you have going on?

What island are you on?
The wife is on a year round schedule, so she just went back to school yesterday, and she is out again at the end of June, at which time we will be coming to Maui to celebrate our 10 year anniversary by blowing bubbles with the fishes!
Can't wait. I really need a vacation. ;)

I'm on Oahu, the major island here. If you stop in Honolulu and want to get a bite or a drink, just let me know! How long does she have off in the summer? Is it three weeks again?

That is a great offer, thank you! Actually, I am pretty sure we will be staying on Maui the entire time, except for a boat trip to Lanai. Since we will be diving most of the time, we can't fly between islands.
Yes, her schedule is generally 9 weeks on, 3 weeks off - but they are on a track system that sometimes throws a wrench into the logic - longer breaks around summer and christmas, etc - I still can't figure out if there is any sort of pattern, or whether it is just haphazard. :)
I am going to Australia this summer!! I am going to scuba dive the great barrier reef and I cant WAIT to get there.

As a history teacher I prefer Europe... I go to Europe every november as we get a week of in November. Over the summer I am a group leader for EF tours and travel wherever the road takes me. Last year I went to Paris and London for 9 days (ironically we got there the day of the terrorist arrests). I left for Paris the day after I had kidney surgery... it was definately quite a 9 day period... lol
This summer I am hoping to do a King Arthur trip all over England.

That is exciting, I would love to tour England to see where the Normans came and conquered. There is so much history to explore in Europe that our short existance in the good ol' USA is still just a baby.

Helper,
Yes Europe is full of rich history that I love teaching to the kids. I use the pictures I take, and shhh I "borrow" pieces of castles and such to bring them and show them the different textures of the stones and what not... you know pieces that have fallen off and are no longer in use.. I don't actually go with a chisel and hammer.. though.. just kidding..
Anyways I agree that the US has a nice quaint little history but it is so young in comparison.. mpst of the "real" history is to our east... (I am in NJ) and I for one love exploring it. I try to get my students to open their eyes to history and what is going on around them. I try to have them see that there is more out there than their town, state and county. Very tough job, but hey someone has to do it.. I will volunteer ... lol
Later,

Hmmm... I will be spending my days at the lake. We rent a cabin for the season about 75 miles from home. This year the girls & I are going to be spending most of our time there. We'll come back for hubby's softball on Monday nights and mine on Wednesday. Right now my plan is to be at the lake from Thursday until Monday afternoon. Stay home a couple of days to catch-up on mail and laundry then hit the beaches again. :) No work this summer unless I am doing some freelancing.

Sitting by the pool with my kids is all I have in mind...

I absolutely LOVE Europe. I was in London just a week or two before the terrorist bombing of the busses and such. I had just returned to the states and saw it on t.v. which was a little scary!
I hope I will be able to make frequent trips in the future like you. Have Fun!!

Teaching summer school last summer was a grave mistake. I was ready to RETIRE by the middle of December, I swear. I usually do two summers teaching SS and then one summer off, but I think that schedule needs serious adjustment now.
In my eleventh year of teaching, I'm feeling the accumulation of summers not spent relaxing. Summer school is such a temptress, though; it's very lucrative where I teach. $3000 for six weeks of work is not something to sneeze at. However, it seems to be costing me more in energy and enjoyment now, here at the end of February.
I'll have plenty to do all summer as I work on my Master's thesis. I've got to get the thing done by the beginning of August, I believe, in order to walk in September. If I get my topic approved, though, I think it will be a fun summer.

I am hoping summer school works this summer, I did not teach last summer. The first in many. I have a college student that needs college money, I hope I teach!

I will experience my third child-free summer as my kids go to my parents for the whole summer. Other than that, my life is in limbo until the end of this week.
If DH gets the job in VT, my teaching aspirations will go on hold until we relocate as NC and VT have different systems for lateral entry. I'll spend my time getting the house ready for the market, decluttering & searching for a new position.
If no move to VT, then I trudge forward, try to find a class or two to take during the summer and take Praxis tests in July.
I teach gymnastics at a camp to all grade levels...over 500 kids!
Since I work in preschool special ed, we work extended school year...so I only have about 3 1/2 total weeks off to work at the camp. It's a nice change from my regular job & my own kids get to go to camp for free.

I think to go in Capri, this summer, and I will relax myself under the sun! I'm too exhausted, I don't take it anymore.

I am going to be doing some curriculum writing for extra $$. We are putting our house up for sale and I want to buy some new furnishings for a new house. :) I am also going to spend quite a bit of time at the lake with my two girls. Should be fun as they are 2 and 4... translation: I will get no rest.

I'm a little jealous reading about where everyone is going. But thats ok, we'll spend the summer riding 4 wheelers whenever we can. We'll also be taking the camper and going to the lake every so often. Looking for somewhere to go on vacation, but hubby works full time so it will have to be somewhere close. He only gets a week off. Anyways, I'm just looking forward to sleeping past 5:30 and relaxing daily.
