View Full Version : Winter Olympics!
I've heard this from another teacher and thought I'd share. She's having her students write biographies on some of the players from the Olympics as part of their course work. She's also investigating the countries involved, the sports and history behind them, etc.
I thought it was a great idea to incorporate the Olympics into the school room.

For older students, the Olympics is a great way to teach geography. I have a colleague who used this article below and did an activity where students researched the cities that were applying for the 2014 Winter Olympics and then had to present a miniature "bid" for that city. It was a pretty cool activity because the students (11th grade) learned about some countries that they may never have heard of before, like Kazakhstan. It also gives thm an idea about what all goes into planning something like the Olympics. Anyway, here is the article that lists the 7 cities applying for the 2014 games.
