Hello Everyone,

My name is Joseph Flaherty and I represent the Rhode Island
School of Design. I am part of a group in the Industrial
Design/Interior Architecture department that is focusing on
the design of elementary classrooms of the future. Right
now we are In a research phase, reading about educational
philosophies, studying classroom teachers, and looking at
the variety of classroom styles and products that currently
exist. We would like to broaden our scope by polling
teachers from different areas. A kindergarten teacher
recomended this site as a source for people with strong
beliefs and ideas about education. We would like to know
what your thoughts are on your classroom space, how
activities unfold within it, and what kind of materials you
use. The end result of this project will be a collection of
concept drawings and models (sort of like at a car show)
that illustrate what the ideal classroom of the future may
look like. To help get the ball rolling we have come up
with a few sample questions:

What is your biggest frustration with your classroom and
the materials in it?

What activities do your students respond to most favorably
and which generate the least excitement?

What do you feel is missing from your classroom?

What is your schedule for a typical day?

If you could have the classroom of your dreams what would
it be like?

We are truly interested in your thoughts on your classroom
no matter how brief (quick ideas are great, so
are dissertations!). This is your chance to have your ideas
turned into fancy marker renderings. Also we will be sure
to praise your input lavishly during our presentations, and
whatever collateral material that accompanies it.

Thanks for your time and effort

Joe Flaherty
