Do you think that the use of technology and computers in the classroom will make teachers in the classroom unnecessary?

Absolutely not! I am a retired teacher, now teaching online and can say, with no reservations, that technology makes the teacher even more necessary. The role changes online, but the presence of a teacher is critical.

No, technology enbables teachers to instruct their students and guide the students in whole new ways. Teachers must adapt and improve their pedagogy to encompass the increasing technology. The students will gain from this enhancement. A teacher will always be needed to facilitate that learning.
A cool technology to look at is Qwizdom interactive remotes. [www.qwizdom.com]

I am a college student at North Arkansas College. I am in educational technology, which is a teaching class. One of our assignments for this class is to post a message on a discussion board on a website for teachers. I read your message, and I found it to be interesting. I do not think the use of technology and computers in the classroom will make teachers unnecessary. I think the improvements in technology are great! However, teachers are still needed. The teachers can use the new technology to teach with. For example, we just had to present a PowerPoint presentation over a lesson we would teach to a class. We also built a web page that we would allow our student’s, their parents, and our co-workers view to learn more about us. Teachers are very essential! I think there will always be a need for teachers, regardless of the improvements in technology.

Hey kaela, and everyone...participating like this on message boards and online communities is the best way to build teacher resources and share knowledge.

And along those lines!

Have you guys seen this new website?

I'm sure you have heard of myspace.com, and facebook.com, and all of those social networks. Well this website appears to bring the networking abilities of those sites together with important teacher tools and resources. It just launched, and I think it's fantastic.

I think this topic is a common fear among teachers, especially those, who like my parents, have been teaching since before computers were used by the general public.

While new technology does present new challenges for teachers it also provides a lot of opportunities to be more effective in the classroom. In the future, I think the best teachers will be those who embrace technology and use it to make themselves the best teacher they can be.

No I dont think technology will replace teachers...
It does make some things easier and other things harder. :)

It will NEVER make teachers unnecessary but there will be a continual shift in what teachers spend time on and what you can use them for.

you will still face the same problems, students that dont care and dont put forth any effort... Computers cant fix that problem any more than humans..
I have often wondered how to teach incentive or want to for elementary students.

Technology & teachers can go a long way. Won't it be cool when teachers can interact with & teach students within a "holodeck" like they have on Star Trek? I hope I live to see the day.
