Can anyone give me some ideas to teach art for the first grade? I have a couple but I don't mind getting more ideas.
Thanks,
Emily

Emily,
Every year about this time of year I do an art project with my first graders that is very fun. I have listed it below. I have a few pictures of samples that I could send you if you send me your email address.
Paper Snow Globes and Winter Activity Writing
Materials:
Black round circle
Brown half circle for the snow globe base (turned upside down)
variety of colors of construction paper
writing paper
glue
I have the kids make their own snow globe winter scene on the black circle (ice skaters, child sledding down the hill, trees etc) and then they write about their favorite winter activities and I put the writing and snow globe side by side in the room. The picture would help to explain this better and I would be happy to send it to you.

A great project for this time of year is Christmas Countdown chains. Here are the directions
Make a paper chain with red and green consrtuction paper 24 loops in all.
Make a Yellow star for the Top of the chain. In the star put a printout of this poem: When Just 1 star shines bright you know it will be Christmas Night.
Have the students take away 1 loop each night strting on Dec 1 as thay countdown to Christmas

The Idea Box and The Mailbox always have great ideas. I also use ED Helper a lot.
