I hope to be interviewing for a position that will have me in a classroom with 1st and 2nd graders combined. I would like to go to my interview with some sort of an idea of what a typical day would look like and how I would go about addressing the needs of each grades' students. I would like to have guided reading groups but how do I handle new 1st graders with their short attention spans and inability to work well on their own and not shortchange the 2nd graders? I would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has taught in a split grade classroom.
