I would like to know if most first grade teachers begin the school year with spelling words (word families, etc.) that are tested and graded, or if they wait until the second grading period before giving tests. Also, I would like some ideas for those few students who are not "ready" for reading, and struggle with sounds, blending sounds in words, recognizing sight words, etc. Thanks so much.
