Certification

Five years ago I graduated from a small midwest liberal arts college in the midwest with a BA in English. I went on to work in publishing and now in sales of on line catalogs and e-commerce. Having said all that, I would say that about twice a month I sit and wish I had become a teacher. I LOVE kids and I considered it at the time I was in school and inexplicably didnt do it. I considered going back, but then got married and my wife is in grad school to become a school psychologist so I just went on. My real question is, if you have the degree already....how hard (in general as I know it varies state to state) is it to get certified? What does this generally require? How much time would I have to take off from my current job to do the student teaching? Any help anyone could give would be VERY much appreciated..thanks
