hello everyone. my name is adam provencher and i am a high school senior in exeter, NH. i am an advocate for the segregation of the mentally retarded in high schools, for i feel that the current system of inclusion and integration does nothing but hinder everyone's education...mentally retarded or not. it only seems logical to have the children who are mentally retarded in another room where teachers can focus solely on the problems of the student, and to be able to educate them in the best way they see fit. the two federal laws which deal with the education of the handicapped do not even require inclusion, but both require that a significant effort be made to find an inclusive placement. we can place them in lower level classes, such as 400s, and they can get social interaction in gym classes and in lunch.
